CubicLabs Receives Defense Manufacturing
Excellence Award
Collaborative Project will save Department of Defense $2.5
Million Annually
CubicLabs is pleased to announce that one of the NCMS Commercial
Technologies for Maintenance Activities (CTMA) collaborative project teams has
received a 2004 Defense Manufacturing Excellence Award. The award presented by
the National Center for Advanced Technologies (NCAT) at the Defense
Manufacturing Conference recognizes outstanding contributions to manufacturing
science.
The Light Armored Vehicle Life Cycle
Logistics Support Tool Team deployed sensors that allow maintenance
personnel to remotely monitor armored vehicles. Maintenance can then be
performed depending on need rather than using a calendar-based schedule.
Deployment of this “condition based maintenance” system in its light armored
vehicles (LAV) will save the Department of Defense (DoD) over $2.5 million
annually.
“This award recognizes the value that our CTMA program creates from the
collaboration between private industry and the DoD,” said NCMS Vice President
Chuck Ryan. “The DoD gets access to cutting edge technology and our members gain
visibility into the needs of our military.”
NCMS members Portal Dynamics, CubicLabs, and
Delphi Corporation were the commercial participants on this project. Other
participants included LAV/TACOM, USMC bases at Albany and Barstow, the Anniston
US Army Depot, and the Rochester Institute of Technology.
